Thornhill is on the edge of Southwater, about one mile to the heart of the village, which has a small shopping centre called Lintot Square. Facilities in the square include a supermarkets (Co-op and Londis), a post office within the Londis, a chemist, an Indian restaurant, a dry cleaners, doctors’ and dentists’ surgeries plus other shops.

There are three pubs in the village itself, the Hen and Chicken, The Lintot and the Tipsy Fox. There is the Boars Head which is on the road into Horsham just outside Southwater about 1.4 miles from us.. The Hen and Chicken is adjacent to Thornhill, please note they currently do not serve food and The Lintot is a modern family friendly pub forming part of the Lintot Square.

About two miles away is the ancient market town of Horsham. Other towns and cities within reach are Arundel, Brighton, Chichester, Crawley, Guildford, London, and Worthing. Trains from Horsham and Christ’s Hospital stations to London and the south coast are Southern Trains. There are direct trains from Horsham station to London which take about an hour. London is also accessible via the Gatwick Express which runs as a shuttle service between Gatwick Airport station and London Victoria Station, during the day and night. Gatwick airport is about 40 minutes drive from Southwater.

Horsham has a theatre and cinema called the Capitol and the town has numerous restaurants.

For those who are looking for something more active, there are local Golf courses, fitness centres and a swimming pool at The Pavilions Centre which is in Horsham Park in the centre of town. The Downs Link path runs through the village and Southwater is a good place to stay if walking the path as it is about half way along the path.
